It was sponsored jointly by the Colonial Office, the Konigliches Museum of Berlin and the Deutsche Kolonialgesellschaft. Led by mining engineer A. STOLLE, it included among its scientists the anthropologist R. THURNWALD and Prof. W. BEHRMANN of the Berlin University as geographer. Its purpose was to explore the SEPIK RIVER basin and adjacent mountains.
