CAPTAIN F.R. MATTHEWS original pen signature on an autograph page 
endorsed “London - Australia - London 22.10.30” in the same hand. [See AAMC.167]. 
Matthews was a British aviator who made an arduous 42-day flight from London to Australia in late 1930, 
after an initial attempt ended in a crash. (See AAMC.163). He eventually arrived in Sydney, to a rousing 
reception, bringing greetings from Amy Johnson, the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia 
earlier that same year, whom he had previously tutored in flying. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, he 
established Matthews Aviation, which ran a regular air service from Melbourne to Tasmania. ����$150–200

CHARLES W.A. SCOTT original pen signature above the words “England - Australia Record” on an 
autograph page following his record flight in April 1931, arriving in Darwin on 11th April having broken 
the previous record set by Charles Kingsford Smith. [See AAMC.186]. Scott went on to break this record 
again when he won the MacRobertson Air Race with Campbell-Black in October 1934.�������������$200–250

ELLY BEINHORN original pen signature on an autograph page with “D-2-160” (her Klemm Swallow 
registration number) and “Berlin - Australia 27-3-32” at right. [See AAMC.229-30]. 
Beinhorn flew her Klemm Swallow D-2160 from Berlin, arriving in Darwin, Northern Territory, 
on March 22, 1932, and then to Sydney in April. She was the first German and second woman to 
fly solo to Australia, making her a national hero in Germany. She was welcomed in Queensland,

BARON de VERNEILH, M.E. DEVE and E. MUNCH original pen signatures on an autograph page, 
collected following their arrival in Brisbane in March 1932. [See AAMC.253-254a). Captain Verneilh 
and his crew had flown from France to New Caledonia with an intermediate stop in Australia in a 
Couxinet 33 “Bairritz” [F-ALMV]. The plane was severely damaged in a crash landing at Noumea, 
but the crew escaped injury. Very few covers were carried.����������������������������������������������������������$150–200
