b'49309 315309C 21 Aug.1936 roughly opened cover London-Melbourne, participant in the famed \'Desert incident\', where Horsa on Aug 29, during Imperial Airways service flight IE473 (departed Aug.22), overshot Bahrain Aerodrome by 100kms at night, a consequence of the airfield lights not having been switched on, the pilots becoming lost and making a forced-landing in the desert, at Salwa Wells. The aircraft was found 40 hours later, and mail and passengers were flown out by RAF Mail to connect with IE474-75, the service delayed five days. Melbourne backstamp (blurred) Sept.14.
