1944 - 1954 group of personal concert programs which feature performances by Jascha Heifetz: December 1st & 2nd, 1944 The Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy with Heifetz performing pieces by Weber, Schumann and the World Premiere of Gruenberg's Concerto for Violin & Orchestra, Opus 47; also, International Celebrity Concert programs from the Royal Festival Hall in London with Heifetz performing on 18th November 1954 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and on the 21st with the Philharmonia Orchestra; and finally, November 24th 1954 at the Theatre National de Palais de Chaillot in Paris, with Andre Cluytens conducting concertos by Beethoven and Brahms. December 1944: In addition to creating transcriptions for the violin repertoire from numerous and diverse sources that influenced his musical tastes, Heifetz also commissioned and influenced the creation of many more traditional works for the violin with orchestra in the traditional concerto form. This dramatic work by Gruenberg was one such piece and this program celebrates its premiere in Philadelphia.
