69 69. 1938 AUSTRALIAN CRICKET TEAM IN GREAT BRITAIN: Superb large format original photograph mounted with printed heading and team members’ names in lower margin fully signed by all 18 in the left and right margins including Don Bradman, Stan McCabe, Sid Barnes, Bill O’Reilly, Jack Fingleton, Bill Brown and Lindsay Hassett. Framed and glazed. Overall 66.5 x 81.5cm. This was Bradman’s first tour of England as captain and was to be the last Test Series until after World War Two. With the Third Test match washed out the series finished with 2 matches drawn, and Australia and England winning one each. Bradman, Brown and McCabe were Australia’s most prolific batsmen and Hutton, Hammond and Paynter for England. O’Reilly took 22 wickets for Australia and Farnes 17 for England. THE AUSTRALIAN TOUR TO ENGLAND, SCOTLAND & IRELAND, April to September 1938 A scrapbook, assembled and annotated by team member, Bill Barnett and with a presentation inscription on the inside front cover, “To George, In memory of a Grand Tour, and with kindest regards, Ben. 1938” A large format volume (44 x 32cm) with half-leather binding, in which Barnett has collected and preserved a remarkable range of newspaper and magazine coverage of the activities - on and off the field - of the Australian tourists. The team comprised of 16 cricketers, W.H. Jeanes, the Manager and W. Ferguson, the scorer and baggage-master. Provenance: An incredible and unique record of this important tour and certainly the most extensive we have seen. This was to be the last tour for many years, with the intervention of World War Two. The “George” referred to in Barnett’s dedication, is George Taylor, the late uncle of the present vendor.��������������������������������������������������������������������� $1,000–1,500 71. The AUSTRALIAN SERVICES XI TOUR OF INDIA 1945-46 An attractive lapel badge titled “AUSTRALIAN TOUR 1945 - 1946” produced by the CRICKET ASSOCIATION OF BENGAL to commemorate this first international tour following the end of World War Two. In the original C.A.B. box by S.C.Roy, Calcutta. The Services team was captained by Lindsay Hassett and included other notable players in Keith Miller and Cec Pepper. The team arrived in India during October and played 8 matches in India. They played a Prince’s XI, the four zone teams and three matches against an Indian XI. These three games were played, respectively, at Brabourne Stadium in Bombay; Eden Gardens in Calcutta; and M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Madras. The first two were drawn and the Indian XI won the third by 6 wickets.
