DECORATIVE ARTS & COLLECTABLES

Live Auction

Sun 3rd Mar 2019

Time: 12:00pm

We are very pleased to offer you our latest catalogue, a fantastic range of International Decorative Arts & Collectables.

The auction starts with a fine selection of beautiful silver (Lots 1 – 50) and is followed by a wonderful range of glass including several pieces of Lalique (Lots 58 – 70). The colourful ceramics section includes some delightful Moorcroft, Gouda and Herend pieces which lead us into the broader area of statues, carvings and other objects of beauty including an impressive bronze & ivory composition by Otto Poetzel (Lot 182), the spectacular car mascot by George Colin shown on our front cover (Lot 196), the exquisite Belgian box from Pouhon (Lot 202) and some superb furniture, in particular the banquet-sized table – 5.8meters long – attributed to Gillows (Lot 261).

A diverse range of artworks, clocks, books, mirrors and other delights is followed by nearly 100 lots of Chinese and Asian interest (Lots 398 – 490) which, in turn, is followed by a most unusual range of autographs: starting with The Beatles (Lot 491) and progressing through, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart and Marlon Brando, we present the first section of the extensive collection of former ANU librarian and bibliophile Colin Steele  (Lots 502 – 510), a group of carefully assembled collections of autographed letters, documents, photographs and signed books where you will find President Clinton alongside Monica Lewinsky, Donald Trump together with Hillary Clinton, Kings and Queens of England, rock stars, artists, authors and 1966 World Cup footballers. You may also want to make time to view the late Gary Kay’s reference library (Lots 344 – 354) and the late Sir Robert Drew’s military, medical and Indian history book collection (Lots 600 – 637).

One of the more unusual and beautiful items in this catalogue is the superb Ronisch baby grand piano (Lot 655) which is the feature of a small section of musical instruments and recordings and is followed by the last section of the sale, Jewellery and watches (Lots 661 – 713) which includes some delightful and unusual little treasures.

We’ve had a great time putting this catalogue together; we hope you enjoy reviewing the contents and we look forward to welcoming many of you at our rooms during the viewing days.
