The core of this auction is the remarkable collection of apothecary specie jars, storage jars, pharmaceutical scales, carboys, point-of-sale displays, advertising signs and medical related objects collected by Geoff and Sue Szwarcbard of Melbourne. In their decades of pursuing these wonderful pieces, they have assembled a display which demonstrates the dramatic changes in the ways in which chemists prepare and dispense their medicines, ointments, powders and pills. A large part of the collection was on display in their pharmacy in Elsternwick, and was often the subject of conversation and delight amongst their clients.
Having recently decided to retire, Geoff and Sue also decided it was time to let the collection find new homes and we are delighted to be able to offer them to you as part of this auction.
