EYE-WITNESS ACCOUNTS: 1851 stampless entire signed "Avison Terry" to Van Diemen's Land with 'HULL/DE18/1851' cds in blue & 'SHIP-LETTER/[crown]/DE19/1851/=LONDON=' cds in red, Tasmanian boxed 'SHIPLETTER/21MA21/1852' transit b/s & boxed postmaster's handstamp 'CAMP TOWN/23.Mar 52' arrival d/s on the face, very fine.
The lengthy letter states: "...The Great Exhibition...gave us the opportunity of seeing many of your productions...it was an altogether most interesting affair, it went off uncommonly well...The Illiustrated News gave...an accurate representation of it...one of the not least curious things in the Exhibition was the printing of this self-same newspaper..."
