A gift to Heifetz from a member of the Czar's family in gratitude for a performance by the young artist before his departure from Russia.
The Gardner Porcelain Factory was established soon after 1766 by Englishman Frances Gardner at Verbilki north of Moscow. The factory produced tablewares, figurines and faience. The factory was taken over by Kuzactov in 1891 who concentrated on mass-produced transfer-printed porcelain until the factory's nationalisation in 1917.
