GRIGORY GLUCKMANN (1898-1973)
Portrait of Jascha Heifetz, (circa 1920s)
oil on panel; 38.5 x 35.5
Gluckmann was also a Russian emigre, and part of the Heifetz circle of Russian friends who came to be based in Los Angeles. He had painted this portrait of Heifetz in Paris in the 1920's and had kept it for his own collection with Heifetz' approval. After the artist's death, the portrait was given by his widow to Heifetz' son, Jay, who gave it to his father, who had wanted to hang it in his home.
