1946 KGVI 7d Air Letter ACSC A3 sent to Italy by Italian Prisoner of War held in Victoria with ‘APPROVED FOR TRANSMISSION BY CAMP COMMANDANT/No5 PW Camp Myrtleford’ cachet in violet on face and ‘MYRTLEFORD/-4JE46/VIC.’ d/s, lengthy hand-written personal message in Italian inside and ‘ROMA/21 VI/1946/PRATI’ arrival cancel on back, fine condition. [After the end of WW2 POWs were entitled to use civilian postal stationery; the Military PO at Myrtleford had closed in January 1946 so POW mail was handled through the civilian post office; many Italian POWs worked as farm labourers around Myrtleford; most were released in the first half of 1946, but some were held until the camp eventually closed in October 1946]
