Description:
1851 semi-literate entire headed "Hobertown Barracks April 18th" & signed "EH Bell" endorsed on the face "Convicts Letter" but not countersigned, to Lancashire with light '[crown]/FREE/22AP22/1851' cds in red, light London transit b/s of SP25/1851 & rated "8" for an incoming shipletter, 'LANCASTER' arrival b/s of the same date, redirected locally with 'MILNTHORPE' arrival b/s in blue, very minor soiling. An unusually fine convict's letter.
The writer complains of missing out on an inheritance (?) because "you all supposed me to have been dead...If you did not get the letters [I sent] it was not my fault...", then most presumptuously "...If you send [my money] to the hands of Sir Thomas Dennison [several attempts to spell 'Lieutenant-Governor'] it will be quite safe. L Erl Gray can forward my money as he is a party consernd in the convicts And then it would save me the expense of the power of an atorney..."
