1846 entire letter headed "Lemington Probator Station December 7th 1846" signed "Gabriel Tinsley", to Lancashire endorsed at upper-left "convict letter/[initials]/Supt", light '[crown]/FREE/4JA4/1847' cds at upper-right, British 'SHIP LETTER' h/s in black & London transit b/s of '23AP23/1847' in red, faint '...ISKIRN' arrival b/s, extensive internal reinforcing with archival tape, overall soiling on the face. Lymington (Nile) was one of 19 probation stations opened during the 1840s throughout Van Diemen's Land. [The writer states "...I have eighteen months Probation to Prove my Conduct before I can be assined to any Person, on waiges as May be agreed for the generell run of waiges Is nine pounds per year...I can not Inform you of much of the Collony at preasent As I have seen very little of it...my number is 16942"]
