ELSEY to EDGAR BRITT upon his retirement as a jockey 1959 with the engraved facsimile signatures of the owners, including William Hill, the Aga Khan and many others.49.5cm diameter, 2,600gms.Provenance: Britt family, by descent.Edgar Clive Britt (1913 - 2017) was one of Australias greatest jockeys. He won over 2000 races on four continents, including the 1934 Sydney Cup. He rode for the worlds elite owners, including the Maharajah of Baroda, and in England as stable jockey for King George VI from 1948. His European wins included two St.Legers, the Oaks, 1000 and 2000 Guineas, as well as an Irish Derby. In 14 years in England Britt won 1400 races with his best year being 1948, when he rode 145 winners.Britt was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 2004 and in June of that year, aged 90, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (AO) for his services to horse racing as a jockey, commentator and journalist.
