b'373111995 ORIGIN OF THE ASHES COMMEMORATIVE CRICKET MATCH: Buffalo full-size cricket bat signed by 19 members of the competing Australian and English XIs including Alan Border, Geoff Marsh, Geoff Lawson, Graham Yallop, Keith Stackpole, David Gower, Mike Gatting, Derek Randall, Dermot Reeve & Gladstone Small. In 1882 at Rupertswood, Sunbury, Lady Janet Clarke created history when she burnt a cricket bail and placed the ashes in an urn after learning of the satirical obituary notice for English cricket published in the British newspaper The Sporting Times, following Australias first Test Match victory on English soil at The Oval. English Captain Ivo Bligh vowed, before departing on the 1882-83 Tour of Australia, to regain those ashes. After a Christmas 1882 social hit-out held at Rupertswood, where English touring party members where staying as house guests, Lady Clarke presented the urn to Bligh. The urn was a personal gift to Bligh and perpetuated the ongoing joke which had commenced in England. The urn was eventually presented to the Marylebone Cricket Club by Blighs widow Florence following his death in 1927. In recognition of the Origin of The Ashes, a celebration game took place at Rupertswood, on the 18th January 1995, between an English XI captained by David Gower and an Australia XI captained by Alan Border. $4006003121995 ORIGIN OF THE ASHES COMMEMORATIVE CRICKET MATCH: another example of Buffalo full-size cricket bat signed by 19 members of the competing Australian and English XIs including Alan Border, Geoff Marsh, Geoff Lawson, Graham Yallop, Keith Stackpole, David Gower, Mike Gatting, Derek Randall, Dermot Reeve & Gladstone Small.
