b'754631919 FOOTSCRAY PREMIERSHIP MEDAL, 15ct gold (8.3g), engraved to the font 1919 VFA PREMIERS * FOOTSCRAY * and verso, Presented to V. BANBURY. Originally from Launceston, Vernon Albert Banbury (1890 - 1950) played a few games for St. Kilda before joining Footscray in 1911. He had a colourful career. Playing against Port Melbourne in 1912, he kicked the ball into the goalposts seven times, which remains an Australian rules football record. In 1914, Banbury was sacked by Footscray in the aftermath of the clubs loss in the 1914 VFA Grand Final to North Melbourne, even though he kicked 2 goals. Quickly reinstated, he was part of the team which defeated the undefeated North Melbourne, in the 1919 Grand Final. After the 1922 VFA Grand Final, Banbury was accused by a number of Port Melbourne players of paying money to throw the match in Footscrays favour. Banbury subsequently received a life ban from the VFA. Despite that episode, or perhaps in defiance, he was made an Honourary Life Member of Footscray the following year. In 2010, Banbury received the ultimate accolade, becoming an inaugural inductee into the Western Bulldogs Hall of Fame. .$3,0005,000464PORT ADELAIDE & SUBURBAN FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION, award medal in gold (9ct; 4.15g), by N.V.Rodgers, scroll and ring top suspension, obverse inscribed, P.A. & S.F. / Association., reverse inscribed, Presented to / E.A.Olsen / As a mark / of appreciation / Season 1919/20.
