Posted Mon Aug 11, 2008 11:00am AEST Updated Mon Aug 11, 2008 11:03am AEST A recently discovered rare 1913 Australian stamp of a kangaroo and map of Australia will be auctioned tonight in Melbourne. The stamp, which would normally fetch less than $1,000 at auction is special because of a printing fault. The stamp has a doubling of the frame plate, visible in the top and upper left. Leski Auctions spokesman Charles Leski says it is rare that a fault adds to the value of a historic item, but this 'philatelic faux pas' may have its owner laughing all the way to the bank. Spokesman Charles Leski said the auction is likely to attract a global audience. "This stamp is not recorded in any of the philatelic literature, so for serious collectors, it is like stumbling across a hitherto unknown find," he said. | |
