Exhibitions in Leski's Showroom

It is our pleasure to announce an initiative which joins Charles Leski Auctions (CLA) with the Australian Philatelic Federation (APF). CLA will have an ongoing series of exhibitions the first of which will be focusing on Australia's participation in the Olympics. The Victorian Philatelic Council, the Victorian arm of the APF will be coordinating the displays which will be changed on a regular basis.

First Exhibit (currently on display): The first collection to be displayed is a Social Philately exhibit commemorating the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, the 50th Anniversary of which will be celebrated in November next year.

Social philately is one of the fastest growing forms of exhibiting and together with Open philately has gained international support since it was pioneered in Australia during the 1990's. The attraction is that it allows the collector to include a range of non-philatelic material to broaden the interest of the exhibit. So you will see in addition to the stamps and covers issued by those countries which marked the Games at the time, postcards, trade cards, badges, labels, tickets, programmes and photographs.

As the exhibitor says "The collection is never closed. Nearly every auction catalogue brings something new. Social Philately presents a wonderful challenge for anyone wishing to expand the scope of their display, while exhibiting allows you to share with other collectors the pleasure you have gained in putting it together."

The Victorian Philatelic Council wishes to thank Charles Leski Auctions for this opportunity to display some wonderful material that many stamp collectors of Victoria hold. Thanks also to John Rennie for the first of many displays.

The current exhibit will be featured at Charles Leski Auctions, 13 Cato Street Hawthorn East, from October 3rd to November 18th 2005.
