WILLIAM MURDOCH, superb signature on 1903 hand-written letter to a young autograph collector. [William Murdoch, Australia's most successful 19th century cricket captain, played 18 Tests for Australia 1877-90, and 1 Test for England 1892, being one of five Australians to represent both Australia and England in a Test. He was the first player to score a Test double century, and scored the first triple century in intercolonial competition]. Murdoch's signature is rare, especially on a complete letter.

1905 AUSTRALIAN TOUR OF ENGLAND: Original Scorebook of the tour, beautifully lettered and decorated by hand, presented to Victor Trumper by famous scorer William Ferguson. Titled inside front cover "12th Australian Cricket Team, Toured 1905 England, To Victor Trumper, from Wm Ferguson, Scorer, May 1905 - Sept 1905". A magnificent and unique record of all matches, compiled for Australia's pre-eminent batsman of his generation. 137 pages, original dark blue cloth binding, blindstamped John Wisden & Co. The last page records the results of the tour "Won 16, Lost 2, Drawn 19".
[Ferguson was official scorer and baggage-master to Australian touring teams for more than 50 years. He is also well remembered for the "wagon-wheel" diagrams of a batsman's strokes, which he conceived and drew from later in his career and which Australian captains used in deciding on field placings.]

VICTOR TRUMPER, match-used "County Sports - The Victor Driver/ Specially made for Trumper & Carter, Sydney" Cricket Bat, with initials "V T" etched on reverse in the ownership shoulder position; used by Victor Trumper to make 50 runs in 5¼ minutes off 10 balls whilst playing for Paddington in 1907. Good condition for a match used bat. A rare and important survivor from Trumper's career. [Victor Trumper played 48 Tests for Australia 1899-1912].

The Keith Miller collection (Lots 145 – 202)

A cricketer of spectacular gifts, Keith Miller was one of Australia’s finest all-rounders. A natural athlete with a powerful physique, he was an aggressive, clean-hitting batsman, incisive fast bowler and sure slips catcher. A charismatic cricketer. he played with a cavalier disregard for records, statistics and conventions, and often appeared to make little effort when the game was dull or one-sided, requiring a challenge to rouse him to action. Miller was only 18 years and 66 days when he made his debut for Victoria against Tasmania, hitting 181 with only 4 boundaries. He represented his State in 14 matches between 1937/38 and 1940/41 before joining the armed forces as a pilot.

At the War’s end he played a vital role in the AIF team that toured England and India, batting with joyous abandon and revealing his dormant ability as a strike bowler. Miller made his Test debut against New Zealand in 1945/46. His Test career saw him selected in 55 matches, with 2958 runs scored, a highest score of 147 and an average of 37.97. He made 7 Test centuries. As a bowler, he took 170 wickets at an average of 22.97, his best figures (7/60) coming in the 1st Test against England at Brisbane in 1946. The 1956 series was dominated by Jim Laker, but Miller’s magnificent performance at Lord’s, where he took 5/72 and 5/70, gave Australia its one victory. His final Test was played against Pakistan at the end of the 1956 tour, injury keeping him out of the three Tests against India. KEITH MILLER: Silver plated Goblet, with enamel Melbourne High School badge, engraved "Melbourne High School, Best Cricketer, 1936, K.R.Miller". An important indication of his cricketing prowess, as less than 2 years later, at the age of 18, Miller made his debut for Victoria, hitting 181 against Tasmania. The Second World War interrupted his cricket career but his prodigeous talent saw him selected to play in the A.I.F. team that toured England and India at the end of the War. ALUMINIUM CRICKET BAT, "Dennis Lillee - Combats" Cricket Bat, the controversial aluminium bat. Handle-rubber deteriorated, otherwise good condition. [One of the most infamous incidents in Lillee's career occurred at the WACA cricket ground in December of 1979. Australia were playing England, and were in trouble at the end of the first day, at a score of 8/232 with Lillee not out. When the second day of play began, Lillee emerged onto the field carrying not the traditional willow bat, but a cricket bat made from aluminium. The bat, manufactured by the company of Lillee's good friend Graham Monoghan, was intended only as a cheap replacement for traditional cricket bats for schools and developing countries. Nevertheless, Lillee decided to use it in the Test match, and at that point, there were no rules against using such a bat].

“Paul Reiffel was a nagging right-arm seam bowler and a very capable lower order batsman. Throughout a career which saw him appear in 35 Tests and 92 one-day internationals for his country, he was a player who distinguished himself with his ability to bowl an awkward line and length and to complement it with a capacity to cut the ball both ways off the pitch. His unstinting accuracy and control was also a key to his success. Reiffel experienced occasional problems with no-balling and was afflicted by a number of injuries that threatened to end his career at different times. But he remained an outstanding player and a highly valued member of Victorian and Australian teams for more than a decade.

The laid-back Reiffel retired from international cricket after forming a part of Australia's victorious 1999 World Cup side, and from his state at the end of the 2001-02 season.” John Polack – “cricinfo.com” Reiffels’ Test career: 35 matches, 50 innings, 14 not outs: 955 runs, highest score 79 not out, with an average of 26.52.
